The clinic offers counseling and parent support to benefit the entire family. Many of the families that visit The Children's Clinic are struggling with physical, behavioral and financial challenges. A child's social and emotional health is a critical component of his or her overall well being. The mental health staff has grown through a generous grant from the Illinois Children's Health Care Foundation. We now offer mental health services by a bilingual therapist, a case manager and psychiatrist. Due to severe social service cutbacks, this has been a wonderful resource for The Children's Clinic families.
The importance of encouraging an early love of reading is another hallmark of The Children’s Clinic. Many children entering the clinic struggle with language and literacy issues. We emphasize to parents that they are their children’s first teachers and encourage them to read daily to their children. Through our Reach Out and Read program, we distribute hundreds of books to preschoolers providing them with early tools to establish a love of learning. The Children’s Clinic volunteers also enjoy reading aloud with children in our reception area.
